A sheet-fed flatbed steel-rule label cutting die order moves quickly when the die maker receives the production context with the finished dimensions. Lock one approved master contour
The production source is a measured, closed vector contour. A PDF, AI or DXF file works well when the line is single, the endpoints meet and every repeated position carries the same geometry. A screenshot explains the shape, while the dimensioned vector file carries the production size.
Approve one master label before building the layout from it. This applies each small correction consistently across all positions. Put the job code and revision date in the filename so the current version stays clear on repeat orders.
Separate sheet size from usable machine area
Raw sheet dimensions and the usable cutting area of the press may differ. Gripper allowance, feed edge and mounting space define the layout boundary. The cutting die drawing fits inside that working area.
State sheet width, sheet length and feed direction. When an existing machine template is used, include its centre, mounting holes or reference points. These details align the die geometry with the required orientation.
Describe facestock, adhesive and liner together
A pressure-sensitive label construction has three functional components: facestock, adhesive and liner. Coated paper and clear PP can behave differently under the same contour. The liner is also the layer on which kiss-cut quality is judged.
Include the material grade or an uncut production sample. Lamination, varnish and special adhesive are recorded separately. The supplier specification remains the material reference, while the die maker uses this information to shape rule selection and cutting setup.
Write rule requirements as height and point thickness
“Barcode rule” is a recognised workshop term, and dimensions make the order line precise. The verified barcode cutting rule specification is 12 mm height and 1.5 point thickness. The number 12 identifies the rule height.
State whether the job is kiss cut or through cut. If titanium edge coating is requested, list it as a separate option. Separate entries for rule height, point thickness and coating make the order easier to read.
Close the order with one control line
Before production starts, use a short written summary that lets both sides see the same job. Read the revision, label size, sheet, positions, cut type, rule request and dispatch time together.
